Convert Vector Artwork/Graphics design to Embroidery
Introduction
Transferring vector artwork from CorelDRAW to your eXPerience 8 embroidery software eliminates the need to redraw designs from scratch. This tutorial will guide you through multiple methods to import your CorelDRAW vector designs and automatically convert them into embroidery designs.
Why Vector Files Work Well for Embroidery
Vector files are particularly valuable for embroidery work because:
- They are built using mathematical formulas that establish points on a grid
- The imported curves and lines maintain the same quality as in CorelDRAW
- You can edit these lines and curves within eXPerience 8 to refine your embroidery design
- Vector designs can be automatically filled with stitches through auto-digitizing
Method 1: Save as CMX and Import
Steps:
- Create or open your design in CorelDRAW
- Go to File → Save As
- Select CMX – Corel Exchange as the file format
- Name your file and click Save
- Open eXPerience 8 embroidery software
- Go to File → Import
- Locate and select your saved CMX file
- Click Open
- Your design will be imported and automatically converted to an embroidery design
Method 2: Copy and Paste (Windows Only)
Steps:
- Open both CorelDRAW and eXPerience 8 software
- In CorelDRAW, select the design or design elements you wish to transfer
- Right-click and select Copy (or press Ctrl+C)
- Switch to eXPerience 8
- Right-click in the work area and select Paste (or press Ctrl+V)
- Your design will appear and be automatically converted to an embroidery design
Method 3: Drag and Drop (Windows Only)
Steps:
- Arrange your screen so that both CorelDRAW and eXPerience 8 windows are visible
- In CorelDRAW, select the design elements you wish to transfer
- Click and hold the left mouse button on the selected design
- While holding the button down, drag the design into the eXPerience 8 window
- Release the mouse button
- Your design will appear and be automatically converted to an embroidery design
If eXPerience window is not visible:
- Begin dragging your selected design
- While still holding the mouse button, hover over the eXPerience icon in the taskbar
- The eXPerience window will appear
- Continue dragging into the eXPerience window and release the mouse button
Important Considerations
Vector Effects Limitations
Some vector effects (like gradients) cannot be directly transferred to embroidery designs. If you encounter import failures:
- Return to your CorelDRAW design
- Simplify or remove complex effects like gradients
- Break down complex objects into simpler components
- Try importing again
Operating System Compatibility
- Copy-Paste and Drag-and-Drop methods only work on Windows operating systems
- For Mac users, the Save as CMX and Import method is recommended
After Importing
Once your design is imported into eXPerience 8:
- Review the automatic stitch conversion
- Make any necessary adjustments to stitch types, directions, or densities
- Optimize the design for your specific embroidery needs
- Save your completed embroidery design
By utilizing these methods, you can seamlessly transfer your CorelDRAW artwork into eXPerience 8 and efficiently create professional embroidery designs without redrawing from scratch.
