How to Transfer Your Software License to Another Computer
This guide will walk you through the process of deactivating your eXPerience 8 software license on one computer and activating it on another. This is useful when you get a new computer or wish to switch between a desktop and a laptop.
The license for eXPerience 8 can only be active on one computer at a time. To use the software on a new machine, you must first “log out” or deactivate the license from the original computer. This is done using the Software Key utility.
Part 1: Deactivating the License on Your Current Computer
Step 1: Close the eXPerience 8 Software
Before you can deactivate the license, you must completely exit the eXPerience 8 embroidery software.
⭐ Tip: The Software Key utility cannot log out the license while the main embroidery program is running. If the software is open, the “Update” and “Log-out” buttons within the utility will be grayed out and disabled.
Step 2: Locate and Open the Software Key Utility
The Software Key utility is installed along with eXPerience 8. You can typically find it in one of two places:
Method A: From the Windows System Tray
- Look for the Software Key icon in your System Tray, located at the bottom-right corner of your screen near the clock.
- If you don’t see it, click the small upward-facing arrow (
^) to reveal all hidden icons. - Once you find the icon, you can either:
- Double-click the icon to open the utility window.
- Right-click the icon and select Show from the menu.
Method B: From the Windows Start Menu
If you cannot find the icon in your System Tray, you can start the utility manually.
- Click on the Start Menu.
- Go to your list of programs and find the folder for your embroidery software.
- Expand the folder and click on Software Key to launch the program.
- Once launched, its icon will appear in the System Tray. You can now open it as described in Method A.
Step 3: Log Out Your License Key
- With the Software Key utility window open, you will see the status of your license. If it is active, the status will show that the key is “logged-in”.
- Ensure the eXPerience 8 software is closed (as per Step 1).
- Click the Log-out button.
- The utility will connect to the server to deactivate the license on this computer. Once complete, your serial number is free to be used on another machine.
Part 2: Activating the License on a New Computer
Now that the license has been logged out from the first computer, you can activate it on a new one.
Step 1: Install and Open the Software Key Utility
Ensure eXPerience 8 is installed on the new computer. Open the Software Key utility on the new machine using the same methods described in Part 1 (checking the System Tray or Start Menu).
Step 2: Log In with Your Serial Number
- In the Software Key utility window, you will be prompted to enter your license details.
- Enter the same Serial Number and Activation Code that you used for your original installation.
- Click the Log-in button to activate the software on this new computer.
⭐ Important Tip: You must log out from the first computer before you can successfully log in on a second one. Attempting to activate the license on a new computer without deactivating it from the old one will result in an error.
