The Floral Fill in eXPerience 8 automatically generates organic, multi-branch floral patterns inside any enclosed shape using your custom artwork or software presets. Unlike Floral Vine, which follows a single dominant stem, Floral Fill populates the shape with distributed, branching stems.

Step 1: Apply Floral Fill to a Shape

  1. Place both your target boundary shape (e.g., an ellipse) and your source flower design onto the design area.
  2. Select both objects simultaneously using the Selection tool.
  3. Open the Convert menu on the top toolbar and select Create fill from Shapes (alternatively, right-click the selection and choose the Array Fill option).
  4. In the Properties panel on the right, locate the Array placement options and select Floral fill. The shape will automatically populate with random floral branches.

Step 2: Fine-Tune Placement and Stem Properties

Most sizing and spacing parameters are calculated as a percentage relative to your initial flower’s dimensions. Adjust these values in the Properties panel to refine the density and scale:

PropertyDefault / RangeEffect on Design
OffsetPercentage (%)Expands or shrinks the boundary margins of the fill relative to the original shape outline.
ScalePercentage (%)Controls repeated object size. Lower values create smaller elements and denser branches; higher values reduce the repeat count.
Rotation0% to 100%Rotates repeats within a 15° radius (0% = base angle; 100% = full 15° rotation).
SpacingPercentage (%)Sets base distance between repeats. The engine dynamically balances this value to fit boundary edges.
Min / Max SizeSizing valuesSets dynamic size scaling. The software introduces gradual size variations starting from Min to Max.
Leaf SizePercentage (%)Scales leaf elements independently from the flower elements.
Flower Spacing1 to 10Sets stem distance between flower heads (1 = closest, 10 = furthest). Lower values increase flower density.
Branch Spacing1 to 10Adjusts branch separation distance (1 = tightest spacing; higher values yield thicker, broader branches).
Starting Width20 (Default)Sets the base stitch thickness where stems originate.
Ending Width5 (Default)Sets the taper thickness at branch tips.

Tip: Avoid clicking Separate to objects until your pattern layout is finalized. This command breaks the dynamic array into independent vector and stitch objects, disabling further parameter adjustments via the Array Properties bar.

Step 3: Replace or Add Custom Leaves and Flowers

You can update elements dynamically without rebuilding the array.

Using Custom Artwork:

  1. Draw or import the new leaf or flower element next to your active floral array.
  2. Select both the floral array object and the new artwork.
  3. Right-click the selection, navigate to Array, and select either Add shape as Leaf or Add Shape as Flower.
  4. Click and drag your cursor over the workspace to set the base scale for the newly assigned shape.

Using Built-in Presets:

  1. Right-click directly on the floral array.
  2. Navigate to Array > Edit floral.
  3. Choose alternative flower or leaf designs from the software’s preset library to replace existing elements instantly.

Step 4: Control Growth Direction with Stitch Flow

To control where the vine originates and how it navigates the shape:

  1. Select the Stitch Flow tool from the left vertical toolbar.
  2. Click anywhere inside the floral fill object to establish a new primary stem origin point.
  3. Click additional points across the shape to draw an explicit growth path. The software will recalculate branches to track directly along these guide nodes.

Tip: To create a natural asymmetric look, place your initial Stitch Flow click near a corner or narrow curve of your boundary shape rather than dead-center.
